DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming and diving teams downed the Georgetown Hoyas Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Cannon Pool. The women defeated the Hoyas, 166-132, while the men recorded a 171-127 victory.
"I am really proud of the teams today," commented Davidson head coach John Young. "We had great energy and continued to work on the components of our races that lead to success in February. Coach Holder's Georgetown team is a lot like ours, and we knew it would be fun to race another talented group of student-athletes. I'm pleased that we grabbed some wins, but more pleased that we gave great effort and supported each other enthusiastically."
Davidson was led yet again by senior Luke Burton and junior Elise Lankiewicz with impressive performances.
Burton recorded three of the 12 titles for the men, sweeping the backstroke events, and helping the 200 medley relay squad (1:34.42) to gold. The captain is currently on a six-event winning streak.
Lankiewicz was part of four titles as she went undefeated, including the 1000 freestyle (10:31.35), 500 freestyle (5:05.80) and 200 freestyle (1:52.80), and helped the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.09) to gold. The junior has won seven individual events for the Wildcats this season.
Lankiewicz's four titles helped the women compile nine event titles overall.
In addition to Burton, Clay Resweber and Grant Smith had impressive performances. Resweber won the 1000 freestyle (9:48.81) and the 500 freestyle (4:42.23), while helping the 400 freestyle relay to a first-place finish (3:11.08). Smith swept the breaststroke events, while also being on the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay squads.
Freshman Emily Yang won her second event of the season as she took the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.91. She also recorded a second-place finish in the 100 IM with a 1:01.38 mark.
Davidson will continue at home when it welcomes Old Dominion and Marshall to campus for a two-day event starting Friday, Oct. 30.
