DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming and diving programs closed out this weekend's quad-meet with the women downing Old Dominion, 197-164, Saturday morning at the Charles A. Cannon Pool.
Despite the Wildcat win, the women fell to Marshall, 190-180, while the men were edged by the Monarchs, 190-170.
"We competed well today," commented Davidson head coach John Young. "The ODU men deserve credit for being better than us and extending the lead they held last night. The women erased a lot of Marshall's lead, we almost pushed the meet to that last relay, and they held on to win a good meet with ODU."
Davidson recorded 22 top-three finishes, including 10 event titles from each squad. Junior Elise Lankiewicz, senior Luke Burton and sophomore Clay Resweber added to their multiple gold medals this weekend as each Wildcat won an event.
Lankiewicz won the 500 freestyle (5:02.11) and helped the 400 freestyle relay team to gold. Burton took the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.11, while Resweber won the 500 freestyle (4:43.14).
In addition to Lankiewicz, junior Kassie Shannon won her first individual event, the 100 freestyle (53.43), while also being on the 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay squads that won gold.
Junior Katy Williams and senior Grant Smith rounded out the event titles for the Wildcats. Williams took the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.56, while Smith won the event for the men with a 2:11.03 mark.
"The last five weekends have included a lot of racing for the team. I'm excited to see if we can learn from all of these meets and get better as racers and performers during these next four weeks of training," added Young.
The Wildcats will be back in action when they travel to Gambier, Ohio, for a quad-meet at Kenyon College Dec. 4-5.
