Davidson Falls To William & Mary In Dual Action

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Davidson swimming and diving programs started off the New Year with a dual meet at William & Mary Saturday afternoon. The Wildcat women fell to the Tribe, 172-87, while the men were defeated, 191-68.
Elise Lankiewicz led both squads with two gold medals, winning the 1000 freestyle (10:16.65) and 500 freestyle (4:59.88). The Wilmington, Del., native finished the day with a second-place showing in the 200 butterfly with a season-best 2:03.71 time, while helping the 400 freestyle relay to a gold.
Kassie Shannon, Angie Healy and Maggie Farrell joined Lankiewicz on the winning relay squad that put together a time of 3:30.34.
Katy Williams also impressed, as she tallied two second-place performances. Williams took a time of 2:21.64 in the 200 breaststroke and touched the wall at the 1:05.58 mark in the 100 breaststroke.
The Davidson women finished the day with 14 top-three performances, including three first-place showings and eight second-place outings.
Clay Resweber and Luke Burton led the Davidson men, as they both tallied two second-place finishes. Resweber recorded a season-best time of 9:39.55 in the 1000 freestyle and took a time of 4:45.11 in the 500 freestyle. Burton touched the wall at the 49.91 mark in the 100 backstroke and swam a time of 1:49.74 in the 200 backstroke.
The duo was also apart of the winning 400 freestyle relay team that put together a time of 3:07.23 with the help of Taylor Willenbring and Cameron Bard.
Grant Smith also had a solid day, finishing second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.67 and third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:09.14.
The Wildcat men put together 10 top-three performances with one winning relay and six second-place finishes.
The Wildcats return to action when they host Gardner-Webb, Liberty and Georgia Southern in a two-day event starting Friday, Jan. 22. Davidson will honor its 13 seniors throughout the weekend.
