‘Cats Finish Richmond Duals With Setbacks To Mason

RICHMOND, Va. – The Davidson swimming and diving program concluded the Richmond Duals with both squads falling to the George Mason Patriots Saturday afternoon.
Despite a 160-138 loss, the women recorded 21 top-three finishes and won eight of the 16 events against George Mason.
Junior Elise Lankiewicz led the Wildcats with a flawless performance as she won the 200 butterfly (2:05.52) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.04) and was on both relay teams that claimed gold.
The quartet of Lankiewicz, Kate Moreton, Katy Williams and Maggie Farrell put together a time of 3:53.02 to win the 400 medley relay, while Lankiewicz, Kassie Shannon, Erica Clancy and Angie Healy finished with a 1:36.23 mark to win the 200 freestyle relay and sweep the relay portion for the Wildcats.
Williams also collected two individual titles, sweeping the breaststroke events, while Moreton and freshman Emily Yang won the 100 backstroke and the 400 IM, respectively.
Summer Abiad led the diving portion with second-place showings on both springboards. Megan Cypcar followed in third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
The men finished the two-day dual meet with five event titles against George Mason, despite a 227-171 setback.
Senior Luke Burton led the way with wins in both backstroke events, while helping the 400 medley relay squad to a gold. Burton finished the Richmond Duals undefeated as he took the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke events on Friday.
Clay Resweber and Grant Smith also took home titles. Resweber swam a time of 4:40.12 in the 500 freestyle, while Smith recorded a 27.28 mark in the 50 breaststroke and was also on the 400 medley relay squad.
Davidson will jump back in the water Saturday, Oct. 24 when it hosts Georgetown at 1 p.m.
