DAVIDSON, N.C. — Fresh off their first Atlantic 10 win of the season, Davidson returns to action this week with a road game at Massachusetts before then coming home to face George Mason Sunday in a pair of league games on the picth.
The Matchup
For the second week in a row, Davidson (5-8, 1-3 A-10) plays an away and home Atlantic 10 games. It travels to UMass for a Thursday game at 3:30 p.m. before coming home to face George Mason Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The All-Time Series/Last Meetings
Playing for the first time last year, Davidson and UMass finished with a scoreless draw at Alumni Stadium in the 'Cats' season finale. This will be the first time George Mason has faced Davidson.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson went 1-1 last week, scoring its first Atlantic 10 win last Sunday against Duquesne ... the 1-0 win snapped the 'Cats' three-game skid ... Ashley Finke netted her second game-winner of the season, scoring in the seventh minute for the lone goal ... she also scored at Dayton and has a team-best five goals and is second on the team with 11 points ... Vicky Bruce leads the team with nine assists and 13 points ... she is tops the A-10 in assists and is third in shots (52) ... Bruce was named A-10 Player of the Week, Sept. 21 ... Tuggle and Dani Johnson have three goals each ... Jenni Isaac has a goal and career-best three assists for a personal-best five points ... Davidson has 22 goals as a team, good for a fourth-place tie in the A-10 ... it also ranks fifth in shots (181) and sixth in points (61) ... goalkeeper Becca Ravitz has started six games and has 28 saves ... Davidson recorded a season-high 40 shots vs. Francis Marion ... Davidson is 3-3 on the road and 2-5 at home this year ... the 'Cats' first three A-10 opponents were picked to finish in the top three of the preseason A-10 poll ... head coach Greg Ashton picked up his 182nd career win and 111th at Davidson with the win vs. the Dukes ... he is eight wins away from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach ... the 'Cats return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters ... they welcome 11 newcomers to this year's team ... Davidson was picked to finish 13th in their second year in the A-10 after going 2-5-1 in its first go-around.
Scouting the Minutewomen
UMass (4-5-3, 1-2-1 A-10) hosts by Davidson and Rhode Island this week in league games ... it is unbeaten in its last five home games and is 4-1-1 overall this year ... last week the Minutewomen fell to George Mason (2-1) and George Washington (1-0) ... keeper Cassidy Babin has a 0.67 goals against average and a .852 save percentage with five shutouts ... she continues to lead the A-10 in all three categories ... A total of 10 different players have goals while 12 players have at least a point this season ... Megan Burke leads the team with two goals and an assist ... defenders Madison Smith, Rebekka Sverrisdottir and Georgia Gibson all passed the 1,000-minute mark this season ... the Minutewomen are sixth in the league in shots with 175 ... UMass went 5-9-5 overall last year and 3-3-2 in the league ... it was picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll.
Scouting the Patriots
Sitting at 7-5 overall (3-1 A-10), George Mason plays at Duquesne Thursday before heading to Davidson Sunday ... it tallied wins last week vs. UMass and Saint Louis ... the Patriots are 3-4 on the road ... pacing the offense is Sarah Hardison with eight goals and two assists for 18 points ... she ranks third in goals and fourth in the A-10 in points ... Alex Myers has a team-best five assists and 13 points ... in goal, Kirsten Glad has a 1.16 GAA, 56 saves and four shutouts ...
