DAVIDSON, N.C.  —  Dayton's Ally Malott scored a game-high 20 points and Davidson was unable to overcome a pair of Flyer runs in falling 67-51 infront of a crowd of 783 as part of an A-10 Education Day game Wednesday afternoon in John M. Belk Arena

Five local schools came out to cheer on the Wildcats for the day in Davidson's first Education Day game since 2012.

Dayton ran off a 16-0 run in the first half that erased the Wildcats' (4-11, 0-2 A-10) lead and then used a 16-4 run in the second half to pull away in improving to 10-4 overall and 1-1 in A-10 play.

Malott scored 15 of her 20 points in the first half and pulled in six rebounds. Andrea Hoover followed for Dayton with 15 points, while Saicha Grant-Allen had eight points off the bench.

For the 10th time this year Hannah Early led Davidson in scoring with 15 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. Joining her in double digits was Mackenzie Latt, who filled the box score with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Diona Johnson and Dakota Dukes each added nine points off the bench as Davidson had a 24-22 edge in bench points.

Down 9-2 to open the game, the Wildcats regrouped with Early capping off a 12-5 run by canning back-to-back triples for a 14-13 lead. A few minutes later, a Latt jumper in the lane got back the lead at 16-15 with 10:29 left in the half, but it would be the final lead Davidson had on the day.

The Flyers then used a 16-0 run, seven of which came from Malott, over the next seven minutes to grab a 31-16 lead and headed into halftime up 35-23.

A Dukes' free throw with 16:44 in the second half brought Davidson within 10 at 36-26, but Dayton pulled away for good by using a 16-4 spurt to make it 52-30 and it would lead by as many as 23 the rest of the way.

Davidson finished the game shooting 40.7 percent, while Dayton was at 45.2 percent and held a 41-31 advantage on the glass, getting 18 rebounds on the offensive end.

The Wildcats wrap up their three-game homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against Rhode Island this Sunday, Jan. 11.

GAME NOTES: Today's game was the first time the Wildcats had ever faced the Flyers in their 36-year history … Mellissa Giegerich had a career-high six points off the bench … … Davidson registered its 13th game out of 15 with 10 or more offensive rebounds (12) and scored a game-high 14 second-chance points … Early is 132 points away from joining the 1,000-point club.
