NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fresh off leading Davidson to an 81-67 victory over Richmond in the Wildcats' first-ever Atlantic 10 contest, sophomore Jack Gibbs has been named the league's Player of the Week for games played Dec. 29 – Jan. 4, as announced Monday.
The honor is the second of the season for Gibbs, who finished the week averaging 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. The Westerville, Ohio, native shot 66.7 percent (16-24) from the floor, including 9-of-15 from 3-point range, while going 12-for-14 at the charity stripe.
Following a 21-point effort at No. 3 Virginia on Tuesday, Gibbs recorded 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the Wildcats' conference opener over the weekend. In addition to his second 30-point outing this year, the point guard went 9-of-14 from the floor, drilled five 3-pointers and converted 9-of-10 charity tosses.
Davidson, which joined the Atlantic 10 in July, has captured five conference weekly awards through the first two months of the 2014-15 men's basketball campaign.
Up next, Davidson will travel to VCU for a 7 p.m. televised (MASN) contest Wednesday evening.
