Tuggle Assists Davidson to 2-0 Road Win
 
CONWAY, S.C. — Junior Sarah Tuggle scored a goal and assisted on another to help lead the Davidson women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory at Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon in CCU Soccer Stadium.
 
Davidson (3-3) earned its first win in the series, which saw both teams meet last year for the first time and play to a scoreless draw. The Wildcats handed Coastal Carolina (3-3) its second straight defeat after entering the weekend on a three-game win streak.
 
Tuggle assisted on the 'Cats' first goal by sending a cross from the right side of the box to Vicky Bruce, who took care of the rest in scoring her second goal of the year in the 21st minute.
 
Seven minutes into the second half, Tuggle netted her fifth career goal when Stephanie Piperno headed a pass ahead to the junior, who shot one past the keeper for the second and final goal. The three points tied a career-high for Tuggle.
 
Davidson's defense of Maddie Fisher, Dani Johnson, Rachel Western, Rachel Stelter and Lauren Grace Himes along with goalkeeper Rachel Locke took care of the rest and earned the team's second shutout. Locke finished with four saves on 14 of Coastal's shots.
 
Davidson took six shots and had two corner kicks of its own.
 
The Wildcats will finish out a three-game road trip with a visit to Lynchburg, Va., to play Liberty, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
