LYNCHBURG, Va. — Liberty's Alanna Dunkle scored the game's lone goal in the second half giving the Flames a 1-0 home win over Davidson Thursday afternoon at Osborne Stadium in women's soccer non-conference action.
Davidson fell to 3-4 on the young season, while Liberty improved to 3-3. It was the second meeting in a row for the Wildcats that they fell 1-0 to the Flames.
Dunkle's second goal of the season occurred off a Rebekah Page assist in the 63rd minute. The Wildcats tried to push across the equalizer in the last four minutes of regulation, taking four shots and having a corner kick as well, but were unable to capitalize.
Rachel Locke came up with four saves in the defeat in goal, while Liberty's Holly Van Noord had two saves in earning her third shutout of the campaign.
Liberty held advantages in shots (15-10) and corner kicks (8-4).
The Wildcats return home this weekend for a 2 p.m. contest against Georgia State Sunday. It will be just the second meeting between both schools, which first met each other in 1995.
