DAVIDSON, N.C. – After opening the season 1-0-1 last weekend, Davidson will continue its five-game homestand to begin the 2014 campaign with a 7 p.m. start against Jacksonville Friday evening at Alumni Stadium.

The Wildcats kicked off the year with a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Cal Poly, before playing Valparaiso to a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

"Our first weekend's results and effort were solid, but we have to push on quickly," said head coach Matt Spear. "It's been a positive week in training to prepare to perform, as we continue to fine-tune our sharpness, movement, and chemistry."

Trailing the Mustangs 2-0 at intermission, Davidson scored four unanswered goals over a 19-minute and 16-second span to begin the second half. It was the most goals scored in a period for the Wildcats since netting four in the second half against Presbyterian in a 5-1 win on October 30, 2010.

In addition to scoring the eventual game-winner in Davidson's win over Cal Poly, senior Alan Reiter set up John Pace's 58th minute equalizer to lead the Wildcat attack. Davidson also got strikes from sophomores Christian Fechter and Maxi Pragnell in the win.

The Wildcats and Jacksonville have met four times on the pitch with the Dolphins leading the all-time series 3-1-0, including a 2-1 (2OT) win a year ago. After Valeriy Sviderskiy tied the contest 1-1 early in the second half, Jacksonville's Jack Burns ended the match with a golden-goal in the 107th minute.

"For Friday, we will need to bring our best in terms of energy, urgency, and level of play. And it's the full 90 minutes to which we need to devote excellence. To become great, there are no moments for which you switch off."

Coming off a 2-0 win over in-state rival Florida Atlantic, the Dolphins enter 1-1-0 on the young season.

"Jacksonville returns most of their starters from last season, and we know it's a talented group. Plus they have a new, hungry coach that is surely adding his own style and emphasis," commented Spear.

Davidson will enjoy a week away from action before hosting cross-county foe Belmont Abbey, September 12 at 7 p.m.
