DAVIDSON, N.C. – On Wednesday, Davidson head men's basketball coach Bob McKillop announced that Will Reigel has been promoted to assistant coach, while recent graduate Will Thoni will serve as the assistant for program development.
"They are mirrors of what the Davidson College basketball program represents – committed to hard work, loyal and great teammates," commented McKillop. "They bring to our staff, the same values and talents they brought to the team. We use the word "families" with great respect to our program. We are proud they are such great examples of our basketball family."
Reigel, a two-time captain and member of the Wildcats from 2008-12, joined the staff a year ago as the assistant for program development.
In addition to helping the Wildcats to the 2012 Southern Conference Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament, Reigel was a member (2008-12) of the Davidson Student-Athlete Advisory Council, which implements ideas to promote academics and athletic achievement among varsity athletes.
"What an incredible opportunity it has been to come back home to Davidson College and be a part of a basketball staff that I once played for," said Reigel. "Coach McKillop is one of the most respected names in the business and I look forward to learning from him on a daily basis, while also continuing to help build the program that he has worked so hard to create."
Prior to returning to his alma mater, Reigel was a Sponsorship Sales and Marketing Intern for the Carolina Panthers, where he was instrumental in executing the GMC sponsorship contract.
Outside of his responsibilities with the Panthers, Reigel was an assistant boy's basketball coach at the Charlotte Latin School.
A native of Charlotte, Reigel has also worked as a counselor/coach for the Bilas/Berger Basketball Camp as well as Bob McKillop Basketball Camp.
Thoni has been an integral part of the Wildcats' program the last four years. After serving as a student manager for three, he was awarded a spot on the 2013-14 roster as a walk-on.
"I'm both very thankful and very fortunate to be able to join such a well-respected coaching staff," Thoni said. "After observing their work ethic over the past four years, I hope to mirror that same passion and enthusiasm everyday. Coach McKillop is the best at what he does, so I am thrilled that I will have the opportunity to continue to learn from and work with him."
Along with appearing in 10 contests a year ago, he helped the Wildcats to a pair of Southern Conference tournament titles and four straight postseason appearances (2 – NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 CBI).
During the 2012 and 2013 summers, Thoni was a member USA Basketball's support staff for the U-17 National and World University Games Team, respectively.
Originally from Sewanee, Tenn., Thoni graduated in May with a degree in sociology.
