Davidson Dominant in Season Opener, 56-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson opened its 2014 season with a convincing 56-0 win over College of Faith – Charlotte, Saturday night on Stephen B. Smith Field in Richardson Stadium.
The win snapped a 12-game losing streak for Davidson (1-0), and was its first shutout since defeating Campbell 49-0 in 2008. It was also the first time the Wildcats had surpassed 50 points since scoring 50 against Butler in 2006.
It was also Paul Nichols' first win as head coach of Davidson.
The game was College of Faith's (0-1) first against a NCAA Division I opponent.
Davidson scored six touchdowns in the first half for a 43-0 lead, and added two more in the second half. The Wildcats rushed for 355 yards led by David Rogers, who ran for a career-high 116 yards on 13 carries, while scoring the game's first touchdown from three yards out. Jeffrey Keil, Hub Cirame and Austin Wells also had rushing touchdowns for Davidson.
In addition to finishing 10-of-11 for 128 yards, the Wildcats' J.P. Douglas threw three touchdown passes and ran for another.
Davidson's receiving touchdowns came from Nick Wheeler, William Morris and Cam Cheuvront in the second quarter.
The Wildcats' totaled 483 yards and held College of Faith to just 120 yards and five first downs.
Dylan Cunningham led the way for the Saints with 11 tackles.
Davidson will host regional foe Catawba in another non-conference contest next Saturday at Richardson Stadium, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
