Saturday's Game
• The 7 p.m., Saturday night contest opens Davidson's 116th season of football. It will be the first in which it plays 12 games, as the Wildcats scheduled four non-conference games in addition to its eight-game Pioneer Football League schedule.
• It is the first of two consecutive night games at Richardson Stadium. Davidson will host regional foe Catawba next Saturday at 7 p.m.
• James McLain '82 is serving as the team's honorary captain.
• Fans that bring an item on the Men's Shelter of Charlotte "Top Ten Items Wish List," will receive a free ticket voucher for the game. Bins will be located at the main gate, while the Davidson lacrosse team will also assist by handing out the vouchers.
• The Wildcats return 35 letterwinners and 14 starters (6 offense, 8 defense) from last season's team that went 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the PFL.
• Davidson's team will be very young this season, with 36 freshman and just 25 upper-classmen (9 seniors, 16 juniors.) It's the largest opening day freshman class since the 'Cats also had 36 in 2009.
• The top returner on offense is junior WR William Morris. He had 1,090 yards receiving in 2013 – the third most in Davidson history - and 67 receptions - tied for the fourth most in a single season in school history. His 6.1 catches per game ranked second in the PFL, while his 99.1 yards per game led the league. He is on pace to break Davidson's all-time receiving records and was an All-PFL honorable mention last season.
• On defense, sophomore LB Matt Casey is the top returner. He finished the year with 106 tackles, which ranks as the fourth-most in a single season at Davidson. He was named to the All-PFL second team, as well.
• The 'Cats are wearing brand new, all-black uniforms at home this season. The Nike jerseys are black with red sleeves and white numbers trimmed in red, while the pants are black with red and white stripes on the hips. The helmet is matte black with a red stripe that starts off wide in the front, but tapers to a point towards the back. The left side of the helmet features Davidson's 'D' ligature mark, while the right side features the player's number in the Davidson font in white with a red trim. The 'Cats last wore all black in the early 2000's.
• Davidson is 54-56-5 (.491) in 115 season openers.
• The Wildcats have lost 11 of their last 12 season openers overall, including their last six.
• A Davidson win would end a 12-game losing streak dating back to 2012 (Nov. 10 at Valparaiso.) Davidson's last win at home was Nov. 19, 2011 vs. Valparaiso (11 games).
