DAVIDSON, N.C. — After splitting their opening weekend games, Davidson concludes their four-game homestand with a pair of matches Friday and Sunday against UAB and Army at Alumni Stadium in women's soccer action.
The Matchup
Davidson, playing its longest homestand to open the season since 2011, will welcome for the first time UAB and Army to Alumni Stadium. The Wildcats face the Blazers Friday night at 7:30 p.m., shortly after the men's contest against Cal Poly, while then closing out the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. matchup Sunday against the Black Knights of Army as part of another doubleheader with the men's soccer team. All women's soccer games are free admission.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (1-1) opened the season with a 2-0 win vs. Winthrop last Friday, before falling to No. 5 Virginia Tech Sunday, 4-0 ... Vicky Bruce scored her first collegiate goal and first game-winner on a PK in the win vs. Winthrop ... sophomore Kate Joss knocked in her fourth career goal in the win ... the 'Cats were outshot 29-3 against Tech ... it was the highest ranked opponent the Wildcats have faced since taking on No. 1 UNC in 2005 ... it was also the first time Davidson had played a ranked opponent since traveling to No. 7 Texas A&M in 2010 ... the four-game homestand is the longest to open the year since the 'Cats had a five-game stretch in 2011 ... Davidson went 116-58-30 during its 20-year run in the SoCon, collecting three regular season titles and four tournament titles ... the Wildcats return 16 letterwinners, including eight starters ... returning is leading scorers Sarah Tuggle and Dani Johnson with four goals each ... Tuggle had a team-high nine points ... Stephanie Piperno had a team-best three assists to go with a pair of goals for seven points ... goalkeeper Rachel Locke returns after registering 100 saves and six shutouts ... Davidson has total 50 wins in the past 10 years at home ... the Wildcats were picked to finish 12th in their first year in the Atlantic 10.
Scouting the Blazers
UAB (1-0) opened the 2014 season at South Alabama and earned a 2-1 double-overtime victory last Friday night ... Sarah Morris scored a goal from the left side with 2.9 seconds left in the second overtime period for the game-winner ... goalkeeper Angelica Jimenez was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after totaling 12 saves, including six over the final 20 minutes of both overtimes ... the Blazers are on a three-game road swing to start the season, also playing at Duke this coming Sunday ... UAB welcomes 12 newcomers to the 2014 squad ... returning are four seniors and three All-Conference selections return from last season ... the Blazers went 11-7-2 a year ago and 4-4-2 in C-USA ... leading scorers Paige Hanks (6 gls., 15 pts.), Kimberly Fincher (5 gls., 12 pts.) and Johanna Liney (5 gls., 12 pts.) return ... UAB was picked to finish sixth in C-USA after coming in fourth place last year.
Scouting the Black Knights
Army, which plays at UNCG Friday before coming to Davidson, opened the season with a 1-1 record after registering its first win of the campaign Monday against Big East foe St. John's, 2-1 ... the Black Knights had opened the season with a 1-0 defeat to Fairfield ... Bailey Widman scored Army's first two goals of the season in the win vs. St. John's ... 19 letterwinners return for the Black Knights ... they went 8-7-4 a year ago, including 3-0-1 in their last four matches, and 4-3-2 in the Patriot League ... Army was picked fourth in this year's PL preseason poll ... Katie Holder (9 pts.) and Candace Stewart (7 pts.) are the top-two returning scorers ... they combined to score seven goals ... in goal, Jordan Cassalia returns after starting 18 of 19 games ... she had six shutouts.
