DAVIDSON, N.C. — No. 5 Virginia Tech scored three of its four goals in the first half and Davidson was unable to counter as it fell Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, 4-0, in women's soccer action.

The Wildcats (1-1) were playing their first ranked opponent since taking on No. 7 Texas A&M in 2010, while it was the highest ranked opponent they have faced since traveling to face No. 1 North Carolina in 2005.

Virginia Tech (2-0), which went to the College Cup last year and won a school-best 19 games, controlled possession the majority of the contest, taking 29 shots to Davidson's three.

Scoring their second goals on the season for the Hokies were Murielle Tiernan, Alani Johnson and Bria Dixon, who also added an assist. Tech's final goal came from Candace Cephers off an assist from Jordan Coburn.

Rachel Locke made some impressive saves early for the 'Cats between the pipes and ended with eight saves.

Davidson continues its four-game homestand to start the year by taking on UAB next Friday night, Aug. 29, at 7:30 p.m. It will also host Army on Sunday to finish out the weekend, Aug. 31.
