BUIES CREEK, N.C. — In the first of three games this week, Davidson's women's lacrosse team started off in winning style by rolling to their fifth straight win on the strength of a 14-7 Big South road victory at Campbell Tuesday evening in Barker-Lane Stadium.
Led by five players who scored two or more goals, the 'Cats (6-5, 2-0 Big South) moved over .500 for the first time this year. They won their ninth straight Big South contest dating back to last season when they went 7-0.
Emma Sissman led Davidson again with three goals to give her a team-high 27. Ann Fucigna had a game-high tying four points on two goals and two assists, pushing her season points total to 32.
Emily Rademacher, Mary Leonard and Katherine Rueger each added two goals, while Liz Edwards, Emily Cooke and Annie Brockett scored a goal apiece. It was Edwards' first score of the season.
Campbell (5-5, 1-2 Big South) was led by Taelar Errington's four goals, while Erica Hitch had two assists.
Behind two Sissman goals on a pair of Fucigna assists, Davidson grabbed a 4-0 lead after eight minutes of play. Fucigna's first goal of the game on a free-position shot later made it 5-1, and goals from Brockett and Leonard gave the 'Cats a comfortable 7-2 lead with 7:59 left in the first half.
Cooke capped off the big first half with a goal right before the halftime buzzer for a 9-4 Wildcat lead.
Goals from Campbell's Maddy Dolinar and Errington in the early goings of the second half brought the score to 10-6, but Davidson answered with three straight goals, two of them from Rademacher to make it 13-6 with 7:47 left. Erin Doherty earned her fifth assist on one of Rademacher's goals.
Rueger sealed up the win with her 10th goal of the season and the last score for a 14-7 victory for Davidson.
