GREENSBORO, N.C. – Davidson senior diver Kaliya Burton-Akright will look to further extend her season as she takes part in the NCAA Zone B Meet, hosted by Clemson Sunday through Monday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The three-day meet acts as a qualifier for the NCAA Diving Championships.
This season marks the second straight Burton-Akright has qualified for and competed in the meet. Last season, she finished 39th in the 3-meter preliminaries with a score of 189.90. Burton-Akright also claimed 31st place in the 1-meter competition. She started the day in contention for a spot in the finals but couldn't hold on, finishing with 214.00 points.
Burton-Akright is a two-time CCSA Diving Champion, most recently winning the title in the 3-meter at the 2014 meet with a score of 312.15. She also won the 3-meter event as a freshman in 2011 by scoring 254.05 points. Burton-Akright is currently the program's dual-meet record holder in the event after scoring 285.57 points last season at Clemson.
The meet will start with the 1-meter competition, followed by 3-meter action on Tuesday. Burton-Akright will not compete in the third day of action, which is platform diving. Each event will start at 11 a.m. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
