DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning, but Georgia Southern dealt Davidson just its second loss in the last 14 games, 7-5, Saturday night at Wilson Field.

Davidson and Georgia Southern will play the rubber match Sunday at 1:30 p.m, a half-hour later than originially scheduled, to allow Wilson Field more drying time from Saturday's rains. RHP Nick Neitzel (3-0, 2.33 ERA) is slated to start for Davidson, while RHP Eric Alonzo (2-2, 2.35 ERA) will start for the Eagles.

LHP Josh Mirsu (5-2) struck out a career-high 13 batters in seven innings for Georgia Southern (20-8, 4-4 SoCon), holding Davidson (15-8, 6-2 SoCon) in check as the Eagles built a lead as large as four runs. He limited the Wildcats to three runs (two earned) on just four hits and three walks.

Centerfielder Forrest Brandt hit his fourth home run of the season for the Wildcats, and went 2-for-4, while designated hitter Ryan Lowe extended his reached base streak to 26 games (dating back to last season), also going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Shortstop Sam Foy (0-for-3) saw his hitting streak end at 16 games, but he tallied an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

For Georgia Southern, designated hitter Garrett Chapman (2-for-4) doubled and drove in three runs, while first baseman Ryan Cleveland (2-for-3) doubled and homered and drove in two runs. Centerfielder Kody went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Cleveland's double in the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie, and he scored after a leadoff walk in the seventh on a single through the left side by Chapman. Chapman later scored on a bunt single by shortstop Dalton Busby (1-for-5), and Cleveland's homer in the eighth gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game, 7-3.

Brandt cut the deficit to three with his homer deep into the trees in left field in the bottom of the eighth. Freshman Will Robertson then led the ninth inning off with a pinch-hit double down the left field line, and he later scored from third on an RBI-single up the middle by another freshman pinch-hitter, Brian Fortier. However, LHP Jason Richman (1) was able to secure his first career save despite facing the go-ahead run.

RHP Danny Mooney (3-3) struck out eight for Davidson, but surrendered four runs on nine hits and two walks in 5.2 innings.

As they did the previous night, the Wildcats took a first-inning lead, as two of Mirsu's three walks on the night were to the first two batters, and they scored on a bouncer over the third baseman by Lowe and Foy's sacrifice fly, respectively. Chapman drove in two runs with a double in the second inning though, and the Eagles went ahead in the third inning on an RBI-single by catcher Chase Griffin (2-for-4). The 'Cats tied the game in the bottom half of the frame when Lowe scored on a fielding error.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Davidson.
