KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third consecutive season, De'Mon Brooks of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team, as announced Wednesday.
The senior forward is now eligible for the NABC All-America Team, which will be announced at a later date.
A two-time conference player of the year and SoCon Tournament MVP, Brooks leads the Wildcats in scoring (18.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg), while shooting 59 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. In league play, the three-time first-team selection led the conference in scoring (20.5) and field-goal percentage (65.7), while averaging 7.6 rebounds, good for seventh best.
Brooks, who has hit double figures in 24 of 26 contests, including the 20-point plateau 12 times, joins Fred Hetzel (1963-65), Mike Maloy (1969, 1970), Stephen Curry (2008, 2009) and Jake Cohen (2012, 2013) as the only Wildcats to earn multiple conference player-of-the-year honors.
Davidson (20-12), which has won 13 of its last 14 contests, will play in the postseason NIT by virtue of its regular season crown.
About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
