Burton-Akright Takes 43rd in 1-Meter at Zone B Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Averaging 34.17 points per round, Davidson diver Kaliya Burton-Akright completed the preliminary rounds of the 1-meter diving event at the 2014 NCAA Zone B Meet, hosted by Clemson at the Greensboro Aquatic Center Monday afternoon.
With a total score of 205.00, Burton-Akright claimed 43rd place in the event, finishing just 10 points shy of her 2013 score of 214.40. She averaged 4.89 points per dive.
Burton-Akright's first dive of the day was also her best, as she accumulated 42 points on an inward one and one-half somersault pike, including a 6.5 from one judge. She also performed a back somersault with one and one-half twists in the free position for a total of 36.80 points, receiving another 6.5.
Burton-Akright will compete tomorrow as well, taking part in the 3-meter competition. Action starts once again at 11 a.m. in Greensboro.
