Davidson Set to Entertain Duquesne and La Salle

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team returns home to host Duquesne and La Salle this weekend as Atlantic 10 play continues. The Wildcats will first take to the court Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. against the Dukes, and will face the Explorers Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
About Davidson
Davidson is 3-10 overall and owns a 1-2 mark in conference play to sit tied at sixth with George Mason. The Wildcats snapped a seven-game skid with a thrilling five-set victory of Saint Louis, Oct. 5.
Last Time Out
After falling to undefeated Dayton in straight sets, Davidson overcame a 2-0 deficit to down Saint Louis, 3-2, at Chaifetz Pavilion to earn its first Atlantic 10 win of the season. Hannah Rau led the attack with a season-high 17 kills and Rachel Earnhardt notched 11 kills. Emily Franklin and Mary Harriet Moore each turned in a season-best seven blocks.
Honor Roll
Sophomore Emily Franklin was named Atlantic 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week, Oct. 6, after helping the Wildcats to a 1-1 record, Oct. 3-5. Franklin finished the weekend with 1.62 kills per set and 1.50 blocks per set to go along with a .571 hitting percentage.
The Hitters
Davidson's offense has been bookended by experience, with juniors Hannah Rau and Rachel Earnhardt leading the way. Rau owns a team-best 2.77 kills per set average, while Earnhardt is averaging 2.07 per set. Michelle McNeight is third on the squad with 1.64 kills per set.
Protecting the Net
Davidson continues to dominate the net, posting a season-high 17 total blocks against Saint Louis. The Wildcats have turned in double-digit blocking totals four times this year. Emily Franklin leads the effort with 1.12 blocks per set, while Mary Harriet Moore isn't far behind with 0.83 blocks per set.
Scouting Duquesne
Duquesne split on the road last weekend with Fordham (W, 3-0) and Rhode Island (3-2) to move to 7-9 overall and into a share of eighth place in the Atlantic 10 with a 1-3 conference mark.
Reigning A-10 Player of the Week, Arielle Love, paces the Dukes' offense with 3.30 kills per set and a .396 hitting percentage, good for second in the conference. Mary Henry's 9.41 assists per set ranks sixth in the A-10, while Love also ranks second in blocks with an average of 1.36 per set.
Scouting La Salle
La Salle (6-14, 0-4) enters the weekend looking for its first conference win of the season after losing its first four A-10 matches. The Explorers own the seventh-best kills per set average (10.19) in the conference despite hitting at just a .158 clip.
Kelly Perillo ranks eighth in the A-10 with 3.15 kills per set, while Michelle Healy's 9.27 assists per set is good for seventh. Bryanna Davis (3.14) and Erin Noga (2.99) come in eighth and 10th, respectively in digs per frame.
