Davidson Loses to Duquesne in Straight Sets

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team suffered their third setback in Atlantic 10 play Friday night, falling to Duquesne in straight sets at Belk Arena. The defeat came by set scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-20.
Michelle McNeight and Kelly Friers paced the offense with eight kills apiece, while Rachel Earnhardt and Hannah Rau each chipped in six. Mary Harriet Moore contributed three blocks.
The loss dropped Davidson to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in A-10 play while Duquesne improves to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Molly Davet paced the Dukes as the freshman turned in a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Madelyn Burham (10 kills) and Arielle Love (nine kills) helped Duquesne hit .256 on the night, while limiting Davidson to a .182 percentage.
The Dukes opened a 16-12 lead in the first set, before three consecutive Wildcat kills evened the score at 22. It wasn't enough as Duquesne rallied to take the set. Duquesne sprinted out to an early 8-2 lead in the second frame, and never looked back as the Dukes claimed the set 25-13. Back-and-forth action dominated the third set, which featured six lead changes and 14 ties. The Wildcats held a 19-17 advantage, but saw it slip away as Duquesne used a 7-1 run to gain a decisive 24-20 lead before a Davidson error gave the Dukes the victory.
Davidson and La Salle will take to the court Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
