Nakano Named A-10 Women’s Swimming Performer of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Meredith Nakano made Davidson's presence known to the Atlantic 10 during the swimming & diving team's first competition of the season, as she was named the A-10 Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Nakano led Davidson to a third-place finish behind NC State and East Carolina at the All-NC Invitational Friday and Saturday, earning four top-six finishes and contributing to the Wildcats' top relay teams. Her top finish was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in her final individual race of the meet, touching in 2 minutes, 21.18 seconds. Nakano earned fifth-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (57.42) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.85), and she placed sixth in the 100 freestyle (52.80).

It's the fourth weekly conference honor of Nakano's career, and the first since Nov. 14, 2012. It is also the first recognition Davidson has received for swimming in its first season as a member of the A-10.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. at East Carolina in their first dual meet of the season.
