Lankiewicz Named A-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson extended its claim on the Atlantic 10's Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week award Tuesday, as sophomore Elise Lankiewicz became the third different Wildcat in the first three weeks of the season to be tabbed for the honor by the league office.
Lankiewicz shined in Davidson's first competition against its new A-10 rivals, winning all of her events Friday against defending conference champion and meet host Richmond, and tallying three wins in the 'Cats' first-ever A-10 swimming and diving victory over Duquesne Saturday.
The Wildcats competed twice in consecutive days at the Richmond Shootout. Friday against Richmond, Lankiewicz picked up a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.35), finishing more than six seconds faster than the A-10's next fastest performance, and 18 seconds better than the nearest competitor. She followed that performance with a critical leg in Davidson's 200 medley relay tie, and added impressive victories in the 200 butterfly (2:05.16), where her time leads the A-10 this season, and 500 freestyle (5:04.30). Against Duquesne, she touched the wall second to teammate Kassie Shannon in the 50 freestyle (24.36), but won the 200 backstroke (2:06.96) and the 100 butterfly (57.11) and led a winning effort in the 400 medley relay.
Davidson junior Lauren Malachowski earned the same honor last week, while Meredith Nakano was recognized following the 'Cats season opener. This is Davidson's first season as an Atlantic 10 member.
Lankiewicz is no stranger to weekly honors, as she was recognized the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Women's Swimmer of the Week four times last season.
George Mason's Travis Lauri was named the A-10's men's performer of the week, while Trent Kindvall
(UMass) and Erin Barry (Richmond) were named the men's and women's rookies of the week, respectively.
Davidson returns to action Saturday with its first home meet of the season, hosting former CCSA foe College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
