NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior Lauren Malachowski made it 2-for-2 for Davidson and the Atlantic 10's Women's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week award, as she was tabbed for the honor by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Malachowski, a junior from Austin, Texas, earned Davidson's lone event win over the weekend against East Carolina, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 59.22 seconds, while also competing in the 100 free (54.32) and contributing to a pair of relay efforts.
She becomes the second Davidson women's swimmer to earn the honor in as many weeks, as Meredith Nakano was recognized last week following the 'Cats season opener. This is Davidson's first season as an Atlantic 10 member.
The weekly award was also the first of Malachowski's career.
Saint Louis' Zach Billingsley was named the men's swimming performer of the week, while Saint Louis' Ryan McCoy and Richmond's Annie Lane earned rookie of the week honors.
The Wildcats will get their first taste of A-10 competition Friday, competing at the Richmond Shootout against the host Spiders. Depending on the outcome of Friday's meets, the 'Cats will face either Duquesne or George Mason.
