Brooks Named SoCon Player of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Senior De'Mon Brooks of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played Jan. 14-20, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
A native of Charlotte, Brooks finished the week averaging 26.0 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 55.9 percent from the floor and making 14 of his 16 attempts from the charity stripe.
Brooks, who was tabbed Preseason Player of the Year, began the week with his third double-double of the season as he matched his career best of 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds in an overtime setback to Elon. The 6-7 forward followed that performance with 24 points and nine rebounds in a 93-82 triumph at UNCG over the weekend.
In addition to ranking among league leaders in scoring (17.8/5th), rebounding (7.1/6th) and field-goal percentage (.533/T-4th), Brooks is averaging 23.4 points and 9.2 rebounds in conference play, while shooting 63.4 percent from the floor.
This is the first-ever weekly honor for Brooks, who is just six points shy of 1,500 for his career.
The Wildcats will wrap up their brief road swing with a 7 p.m. contest at Western Carolina Thursday evening.
