DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to a 26-point and 21-rebound performance from Willis Hall, College of Charleston broke open a back and forth game with a lengthy second-half run to get by Davidson, 76-64, in non-conference men's basketball action on New Year's Day.
The first Cougar to record a 20/20 effort in the program's Division I history, Hall finished his career day 10-of-14 from the floor in 40 minutes of action.
In the second half, CofC (7-7) hit 62.5 percent of its attempts from the field to finish the game shooting 57.8 percent. Davidson shot just 39 percent overall and was 9-of-25 from behind the arc.
Trailing 44-43 with 13:29 to play, College of Charleston used a 19-4 run capped off by an Adjehi Baru 3-point play to grab the largest lead by either team to that point, 62-48. Davidson closed to within seven late in the contest on a Jake Belford 3-ball with 2:44 remaining, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Brian Sullivan and Tom Droney were the lone Wildcats in double figures with 13 and 12, respectively. The 'Cats also struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 9-of-20 attempts, while the Cougars sank 20-of-29 tries.
Davidson (4-10) had held the upper hand at halftime after 10 ties and 10 lead changes, 35-33.
Anthony Thomas and Nori Johnson added 11 points each for the Cougars.
Davidson will open Southern Conference play Saturday evening with a 7 p.m. contest at Wofford.
