DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head coach Bob McKillop announced Monday that Abe Woldeslassie and Will Reigel '12 have been added to the Davidson men's basketball staff. Woldeslassie will take over as the Director of Operations, while Reigel will serve as the Assistant for Program Development.
Last season, Woldeslassie served in the same capacity at Dartmouth where he coordinated on-campus recruiting visits, team travel, film travel and a number of other behind-the-scenes duties.
Prior to his one-year stint at Dartmouth, Woldeslassie spent two years as an assistant coach at Bowdoin in Brunswick, Maine, helping the Polar Bears post a 31-18 record during his stay. Among his duties were recruiting, overseeing film exchange, organizing team volunteer opportunities and assisting with team travel and summer camps.
"Abe comes to Davidson with an impressive background and outstanding work ethic," said McKillop. "He was fortunate to work for outstanding head coaches at Dartmouth and Bowdoin. He is very well prepared to take on this opportunity at Davidson."
A 2008 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., Woldeslassie earned his bachelor's degree in sociology. In his two years on the Scots basketball team, he started all 50 games while averaging 17.2 points and 5.4 assists per game. Twice he was named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) First Team, and twice he led the league in assists.
Woldeslassie, a Minneapolis native, broke into the coaching ranks as an assistant coach at Impact Basketball, one of the premier basketball training facilities in the world. In addition to recruiting prospective student-athletes, he was active in on-court player development and assisted with the 2008 and 2009 NBA Pre-Draft workouts. He also served as co-director of the 2009 Impact Basketball Classic, a 14-team event held in Las Vegas. In the summer of 2009, he held a head coaching position at the Basketball Training Institute in Pasadena, California.
Reigel, a two-time captain and member of the Davidson men's basketball team from 2008-12, returns to his alma mater after serving as a Sponsorship Sales and Marketing Intern for the Carolina Panthers, where he instrumental in executing the GMC sponsorship contract.
In addition to helping the Wildcats to the 2012 Southern Conference Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament, Reigel was a member (2008-12) of the Davidson Student-Athlete Advisory Council, which implements ideas to promote academics and athletic achievement among varsity athletes.
"During his days as a student athlete in our program, Will was a superb leader. Blending that with his extensive connections to the Davidson College community and his deep rooted commitment to our program will make him a significant addition to our staff," McKillop said.
Outside of his responsibilities with the Panthers, Reigel was an assistant boy's basketball coach at the Charlotte Latin School.
A native of Charlotte, Reigel has also worked as a counselor/coach for the Bilas/Berger Basketball Camp as well as Bob McKillop Basketball Camp.
