DAVIDSON, N.C. – Four minutes away from going into overtime, Davidson saw James Madison score a pair of late goals in sending the Wildcats to their fourth straight defeat by the score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in non-conference women's soccer action.
The two teams, which had not met since 1991, played fairly even until the Dukes broke through in the 85th and 87th minutes.
JMU's first goal came off a corner. Sam Lofton sent a ball into the box where Haley Miller headed a pass to Becky Sparks, who then chipped it just past the end line despite it looking as though the Wildcats' Rachel Locke had stopped the shot.
The Dukes (5-3) added an insurance goal then in the 87th minute after a long through ball by Lofton to Lauren Wilson, who pushed the ball down on the far sideline and crossed a pass into Katie Hyland in the box for the second goal.
Davidson (0-5-3) finished with just two shots compared to JMU's 17, but only six of those were on goal, while the 'Cats got off four corners to the Dukes' seven.
The 'Cats stay at home and will host cross-county rival Charlotte for a 6 p.m. contest next Sunday, Sept. 22.
