DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson men's basketball coach Bob McKillop announced today that De'Mon Brooks, Chris Czerapowicz, Tom Droney and Tyler Kalinoski have been named team captains for the 2013-14 season.
The four captains were selected in a vote by the team and coaching staff.
“We are delighted to announce that De'Mon Brooks, Tom Droney, Chris Czerapowicz and Tyler Kalinoski have been selected as captains for the 2013-14 season,” said McKillop, who just completed his 24th season at the helm of the Wildcats. “They have been fortune to have the torch of leadership passed along to them by Nik Cochran, Jake Cohen, JP Kuhlman and Clint Mann. We are very pleased to have them leading us next year. They are all superb representatives of our program and College.”
A two-time Southern Conference Tournament MVP, Brooks finished his junior campaign ranked among league leaders in scoring (13.7/13th), rebounding (6.2/11th), field-goal percentage (.500/7th), free-throw percentage (.747/12th) and offensive rebounds (2.2/7th). In addition to being named SoCon Player of the Year as a sophomore, Brooks is a three-time all-conference performer.
Czerapowicz, who has started 41 consecutive games for the Wildcats dating back to 2011-12, led the team in 3-point field goals a year ago, while averaging 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, the 6-7 guard scored in double figures 15 times in 2012-13, including a season-high 20 at Elon.
A 6-6 guard from Pittsburgh, Pa., Droney has played in every contest since his freshman season, including 58 starts. Last year as a reserve, he led the team in assist/turnover radio (2.8) and was a key contributor late in the season averaging 5.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while shooting 80.6 percent at the line and 47.8 percent from the floor over the last 17 games.
As a sophomore, Kalinoski averaged just under eight points per game and ranked second on the team in 3-point field goals with 55. One of seven players to contribute more than 20 minutes per outing in 2012-13, the backup shooting guard hit the 10-point plateau 13 times, including a season-high 15 points on separate occasions.
Coming off back-to-back Southern Conference regular season titles, tournament crowns and NCAA Tournament appearances, Davidson returns 11 letterwinners from a 2012-13 squad that went 26-8 overall and 17-1 in league play.
