DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Ann Fucigna broke the program's all-time goals record, while sophomore Emily Cooke set a new single-season mark for assists as they helped lead the Wildcats to an easy 18-3 Big South women's lacrosse win at home vs. Campbell Friday evening in Richardson Stadium.
Fucigna's four goals gave her 135 for her career, moving past Jen Crawford's 134 career goals. The junior attacker finished with five points, dishing out an assist. She is 12 points away from setting the program's all-time points mark.
Cook tallied a game-high eight points, three off her personal-high set earlier this season, dishing out four assists to give her 31 for the season. She broke Linda Rothemund's single-season mark of 29 set in 1998. The sophomore, who set the single-game mark with 10 assists vs. Kennesaw State this year and tied the single-game record for points with 11 in the same game, added four goals in the win to give her 22 on the season for a career-best 53 points.
Davidson (6-5, 3-0 Big South) rattled off a 17-0 run in cruising to its fourth straight win. Seven different Wildcats scored during the spurt. The three goals allowed were the second-fewest this year after giving up just two to Kennesaw State.
Erica Hitch had given the Fighting Camels (5-5, 0-4 Big South) an early 1-0 lead two minutes into the game, but the 'Cats went off for 17 straight goals to take control.
Jean Atkinson had a season-best five points on two goals and three assists. The freshman picked up four of the points during the scoring outburst. She also registered five groundballs and three draw controls.
Paige Logan, Catherine Schmidt and Alanna Parker each tallied a pair of goals, with Logan chipping in an assist.
Davidson dominated the stat-sheet, firing off 35 shots, picking up 21 groundballs and 18 draw controls and were a perfect 9-for-9 on clear attempts.
Parker, Lindsay Cooper (2 groundballs, 2 draw controls) and Liz Edwards each forced two turnovers. Edwards had two groundballs and a draw control. Morgan Tarrant picked up two draw controls and a groundball as well.
Jessica Melby and Katy Boyle split time in the goal in helping the 'Cats to the win.
Davidson finishes out the weekend with its Senior Day Sunday, April 7. The 'Cats will play host to Presbyterian at 1 p.m., honoring their six seniors prior to the start of the game.
