DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team got back on the winning track and earned their first Southern Conference victory of the season with a 4-3 decision over Wofford at the Covington Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wildcats (8-8, 1-6 SoCon), playing their third of five matches in a nine-day span, snapped a six-match skid overall. Wofford (5-12, 1-5 SoCon) suffered its eighth loss in a row.
Davidson grabbed an early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. Brites Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 to move to a team-best 7-6 on the season.
Stephnai Synn and Nisha Crouser sealed the point up with an 8-6 win at No. 2. The duo ran their record to 6-7 overall and 2-5 in conference action.
Moniz-Soares, Synn and Crouser then got the final three points needed for the team victory with straight set singles wins. Moniz-Soares tallied a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 to snap a six-match losing streak. The junior collected her first league win of the season.
Synn and Crouser made it a perfect day with 6-1, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 triumphs at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Synn won her second match in the past three and moved to 3-7 on the season (2-4 SoCon).
The junior Crouser, who is 7-3 in the last 10 matches, hit the 10-win mark for the first time in her career. She moved to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Davidson continues its busy stretch of matches this weekend with a pair, starting at home vs. Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday, April 5. The 'Cats will then hit the road for a 1 p.m. match at Western Carolina, April 6.
