DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its fourth of five matches in a nine-day span, Davidson came up short in a 5-2 decision at home against Appalachian State Friday afternoon in women's Southern Conference tennis action at Covington Tennis Courts.
Davidson fell to 8-9 on the campaign and 1-7 in league play, while ASU stopped a three-match skid in moving to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in SoCon action.
The match started out in favor of the Wildcats as they captured the doubles point for the ninth time this year. The top team of Elaina Cummer and Brities Moniz-Soares scored their team-best eighth win of the season with an 8-6 triumph. Then Stephani Synn and Nisha Crouser sealed up the team point with their own 8-6 win at No. 2 as they evened their record to 7-7.
The lead was short-lived as the Mountaineers would win five of the six singles matches to take home the win. The lone victor on the afternoon was Synn, who won her second straight with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3. The senior moved to 4-7 on the year, 3-4 in conference matches.
Davidson closes out its five-matches in a nine-day span with a trip to Western Carolina tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match.
