Men’s Track & Field Takes Fifth at Carolina’s Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Patrick Rollo's win in the 800-meter run led the Davidson men's track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the Carolina's Cup hosted Friday by Winthrop University on Irwin Belk Track.
Rollo led a 1-2 Davidson finish in the 800m, as he won in 1 minute, 55.62 seconds and was closely followed by teammate Wesley Laytham, who crossed in 1:55.67. The duo scored 18 of Davidson's 38 team points for the day.
The 'Cats were out-gunned in team scoring, resting many of their top middle distance and distance runners, as host Winthrop won the meet with 150 points and was followed by Savannah State with 141. Gardner-Webb took third with 93 and was followed by The Citadel in fourth with 57 points. Radford rounded out the six-team field with 15 points.
Junior Stewart Dalton totaled eight points for Davidson, scoring six with a third-place finish in the long jump after leaping 21 feet, 11 inches (6.68m) and adding two points with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 11.22 seconds.
Sophomore Sal del Giudice placed fourth in the 1500-meter run in 4:15.51, and freshman Aaron Forburger did the same in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:03.51.
Freshman Charles Rappe led the 'Cats in the 200-meter dash in 23.36 seconds to place fifth, while junior Nate Faubion led in the 400-meter dash with a sixth-place finish in 51.92 seconds. Junior Michael Lorentsen took sixth in the pole vault after clearing 13-11 ¼ (4.25m).
Davidson will next compete in the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, Saturday, Apr. 20 and Sunday, Apr. 21, hosted by Georgia Southern.
