PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Fresh off participating in the 2013 Reese's College All-Star Game, Davidson's Jake Cohen is competing in the 61st Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this week.
Each year for 60 years the P.I.T has invited 64 of the best college basketball players (seniors) from across the nation to participate in a four-day, twelve game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.
A member of the Portsmouth Partnership, Cohen finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including two 3-pointers, in a 90-89 quarterfinal win over Mike Duman Auto Sale last night. Cohen and Portsmouth Partnership will return to the floor Friday evening in the semifinals.
In addition to leading the Wildcats to back-to-back Southern Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, Cohen is the first Wildcat to earn consecutive Southern Conference player of the year honors since Stephen Curry (2006-09).
Davidson's all-time leader in blocks (197) and starts (123), Cohen concluded his standout career ranked among the school's Top-10 in points (1,795/6th), rebounds (747/9th) field-goals made (611/7th), field-goals attempted (1260/6th), free-throws made (451/2nd), free-throws attempted (560/5th), free-throw percentage (.805/T-9th) and games played (131/4th).
A native of Berwyn, Pa., Cohen recorded double figures 97 times and reached the 20-point plateau 21 times, including a career-high 32 points in Davidson's 75-59 win at SoCon rival College of Charleston Feb. 14, 2013. Against third-seeded Marquette in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, the 6-10 forward led all scorers with a game-high 20 points.
