DAVIDOSN, N.C. Alanna Parker scored a season-high four goals and 10 Wildcats in all had at least one point in guiding Davidson to 17-7 a home win vs. Longwood in its Big South Opener for women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Richard Stadium.

Davidson, starting its first year in the inaugural Big South Women's Lacrosse Conference after playing in the National Lacrosse Conference the past three years, snapped a two-game skid as it moved to 3-5 on the campaign and 1-0 in league play.

The win was also the Wildcats' third straight against Longwood, which fell to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big South.

Parker scored three of her four goals, including back-to-back within 30 seconds of each other, in a 9-0 Wildcat run to finish out the first half that erased an early 1-0 deficit. Her four goals pushed her career total to 114.

Emily Cooke had a team-best five points on three goals and two assists, giving her a team-high 37 points on the year (16 goals, career-best 21 assists). She has already matched her point total of all of last year in 18 games.

Emily Rademacher (four points) matched Cooke with three of her own goals, including the first of the game on a free-position shot that started the 9-0 spurt.

Erin Doherty had a season-high three points (2 goals, assist) and Mary Leonard gave Davidson its fifth player with multiple goals by scoring twice in the first half.

Lindsay Cooper had her first assist of the season, while adding a goal. The senior gave the Wildcats their biggest lead of the game at 16-4 off an assist from Catherine Schmidt with 13:12 left in the game.

Longwood's Jamie Brentlinger and Katie McHugh had three points apiece on two goals and an assist each. Brentlinger scored the game's first goal, but it was all Davidson the rest of the way.

Lauren Prasnicki and Brentlinger halted the Wildcats run with a goal each to open the second half, but Davidson answered with five straight goals, including two from Cooke, to push the lead out to 11 (14-3).

Both teams took 29 shots, while the Lancers held a 21-16 edge on groundballs. The Wildcats went a perfect 4-for-4 on free-position attempts and were 14-of-17 on clear attempts.

Davidson had 15 draw controls as Paige Logan and Emma Sissman scooped up six each. Sissman now has a team-best 34 on the season. Logan added four groundballs to push her total to 22 on the season.

Jessica Melby dominated between the pipes, stopping a season-best 11 shots. It was the senior's third double-digit save game this year. Longwood's Christian Acker and Caitlyn Miller stopped a combined four shots in goal.

Davidson wraps up a three-game homestand with a 6 p.m. non-conference contest against Lafayette Tuesday, March 26. The Wildcats will be looking to avenge a 14-8 defeat to the Leopards a year ago.
