Northwestern Mutual Honors Jean DeOrnellas ‘13

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In continuing on with their partnership with Davidson athletics, Northwestern Mutual has honored swimmer Jean DeOrnellas '13 for her achievements in the pool and the classroom as part of their Northwestern Mutual Student-Athlete Spotlight. DeOrnellas was presented with a plaque at last week's men's basketball game.
DeOrnellas has been named a member of the CCSA All-Academic Team and was designated a Scholar All-American Honorable Mention by the College Swim Coaches Association of America in 2011. She has helped the Wildcats earn Scholar All-American Team honors numerous times and boasts a 3.959 grade-point average as a political science major.
The senior from Fairfax, Va., specializes in freestyle and butterfly events and appears on the all-time top-10 performers lists in three individual events. DeOrnellas is also a school-record holder as a member of the 200, 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays.
In addition to DeOrnellas and distance runner Demetrios Pagonis '13, who was honored earlier this winter, a total of four student athletes will be featured throughout the year. Northwestern Mutual is dedicated to helping others achieve their full potential, and believes that through preparation, hard work and embracing the spirit of competition, everyone can achieve that potential – in life and in the field of sports.
