• Davidson opens its 106th season of basketball against nationally-ranked Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium Friday evening with a 7 p.m. televised (ESPNU) contest.
• In addition to its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 12th overall, Davidson finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 26-8 record, marking the fifth time in the last seven seasons the Wildcats have posted 25 or more wins.
• Davidson concluded the 2012-13 season with 17 straight wins before falling to Marquette, 59-58, at the buzzer, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
• The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the SoCon preseason poll by both the media and head coaches.
• Davidson returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad, including Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year De'Mon Brooks.
• Brooks, the 2011 SoCon Player of the Year (coaches) and two-time Tournament MVP, averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds a year ago, while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
• Bob McKillop, who is the eighth longest-tenured coach in the country, is in his 25th season at the helm of the Wildcats.
• McKillop is the school's and league's all-time winningest coach with a record of 452-279.
• A year ago, McKillop was named Conference Coach of the Year for a record ninth time.
• With last season's NCAA?Tournament appearance, every four-year player in the Davidson program since 1994 will have played in the "Big Dance."
• In 2012-13, Davidson led the nation in free-throw percentage with a .795 clip.
• Davidson is 14-83 all-time when playing a ranked opponent (AP?Poll) and has lost 12 of its last 13.
• The Wildcats last win over a ranked opponent came on Dec. 19, 2011 when they defeated then-ranked No. 12/11 Kansas, 80-74, in Kansas City.
• The 2013-14 season will be Davidson's final in the Southern Conference. In July of 2014, Davidson will join the Atlantic 10.
Series Notes
• Duke leads the all-time series, which began in 1909, 89-17, and has won 24
consecutive games against the Wildcats.
• Davidson's last victory against Duke came Dec. 29, 1981, when the Wildcats topped the Blue Devils 75-73 at the Iron Duke Classic in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
• That was Davidson's only victory in Cameron, where the Wildcats are 1-32 all time.
• The last time the two teams met, then-ranked No. 1 Duke went on a 12-0 run to break a halftime tie and got 18 points from Ryan Kelly in a 67-50 victory over Davidson at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.
• In the last meeting at Cameron, No. 6 Duke used a big second-half run to top Davidson 82-69 on Nov. 18, 2011.
Season Openers
• Davidson holds a 69-31 (.690) record in season openers.
• Under head coach Bob McKillop, the Wildcats hold a mark of 11-13 in season openers.
• Eight of Davidson's season-opening losses during McKillop's tenure have come at the hand of teams from either the ACC, SEC, Atlantic 10 or Big 12, and six have been against ranked opponents.
• Davidson has opened its season against Duke four times.
Tough Schedule
• Once again Davidson will tackle one of the nation's toughest non-conference schedules, which includes contests with Duke, Virginia, Georgia, Temple/Clemson, Drexel, North Carolina, Wichita State and College of Charleston.
• Four of Davidson's non-conference
opponents are ranked in the preseason Top-25
• All told, eight teams advanced to postseason play a year ago, including three that finished with RPIs in the Top-20, according to the NCAA's RPI ratings.
