CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Davidson diver Kaliya Burton-Akright and swimmer Elise Lankiewicz swept the women's portion of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association's weekly honors, earning Female Diver and Swimmer of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 3. The league announced the accolades Wednesday morning.
In earning her second CCSA Diver of the Week award this season, Burton-Akright picked up wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the Wildcats' meet vs. VMI. She posted a season-best score of 229.50 in the 1-meter event to take first vs. the Keydets (eighth overall). Burton-Akright also earned a win in the 3-meter against VMI (seventh overall), recording another season-high of 233.95.
Barely a month into her collegiate career, Lankiewicz is already making an impact for the Wildcats. The Wilmington, Del., native set a new program record in the 1,000-yard freestyle in Davidson's meet vs. VMI, Asheville & Clemson, shaving nearly two seconds off the previous record with her time of 10:15.25 en route to a first-place finish. She picked up another win in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:09.31 in addition to swimming a leadoff split of 53.56 in Davidson's 400-yard free relay. The relay would post the fastest time of the meet at 3:36.54. The honor is her second of the season.
The Wildcats head to south Charlotte this Saturday where the men will face Queens in head-to-head action while the women will face Queens and CCSA foe Campbell in an 11 a.m. meet.
