DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming & diving teams will host a trio of opponents for their second home meet of the year at Cannon Pool this Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. start. The women will play host to CCSA foes VMI and Asheville, along with the Clemson divers, while the men will square off with VMI in a dual meet.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
The Keydet men enter the match up 1-2 on the season, earning a 138-66 win over fellow CCSA member Howard and falling to North Carolina and Virginia Tech to open the season. The Keydets are led by Matt Johnson, who recently set a program record in the 1000 free and ranks 13th in the CCSA in the event. Connor McMahon leads the sprints, ranking sixth in the 50-yard free and ninth in the 100. The women's squad is 1-1-1 after tying North Carolina A&T to open the season. They also defeated Howard, but fell to CCSA member Radford. Justina Dunne won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, while Elizabeth Johnson set a new program record in the 50-yard free vs. Howard and N.C. A&T on Oct. 19.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The 2013-14 season marks the first head-to-head meeting between the Bulldogs and Wildcats, as Asheville returned to action just three years ago following a 36-year hiatus. The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the season, claiming a win over North Carolina A&T and falling to Campbell and Marshall. Alexandra Van Dorsten is one of the top swimmers, winning the 100- and 200-yard free events in the squad's loss to Marshall. Alessandra Troncoso was also a double winner for the Bulldogs, taking the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Wildcats and the Tigers faced off last season at Clemson in the school's first-ever home diving meet. Clemson competed last weekend vs. Richmond and Georgia Southern, picking up a win in the 3-meter event (Chelsea Uranaka) before taking the first six spots in the 1-meter, led by Megan Helwagen.
