CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two divers and two swimmers each notched a pair of individual victories as the Davidson swimming and diving teams fell to former CCSA foe College of Charleston in dual meet action at the Stern Center Saturday afternoon. The men fell by a score of 142-99, while the women took a 134-109 loss.
For the second week in a row, Elise Lankiewicz and Dylan Ludwick each claimed a pair of events. Brian McRae and Kaliya Burton-Akright, the reigning CCSA Divers of the Week, followed suit with a pair of wins in the diving events. Lankiewicz won the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:03.81 and also claimed the 400-meter free in 4:28.29. Ludwick earned wins in the 200-meter free (1:53.56) and the 400-meter free (4:07.18). McRae won the 1-meter (217.72) and 3-meter (243.82), while Burton-Akright matched his feat with a score of 242.92 in the 3-meter and 254.70 in the 1-meter.
Lauren Malachowski, Katy Williams and Kassie Shannon teamed with #Lankiewicz# for a second-place finish in a time of 4:25.28 in the 400-meter medley relay to open the meet. The men's squad of Luke Burton, Spencer Gill, Thomas Bigham and Brandon Kegley also claimed a runner-up finish, touching the wall 3:57.24.
Williams picked up an individual victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the pads in 1:15.29.
In the 800-meter free, Anna Blair Bullock touched in a time of 9:28.14 for second place. For the men, Max Schimanski claimed third in 8:46.81.
Angie Healy and Liz Mace gave the Wildcats a 1-2 punch in the 200 free. Healy won the race in a time of 2:08.00, while Mace touched the pads in 2:11.45. Healy later took second in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing in a time of 59.17.
Erica Clancy took second place in the 50-meter freestyle, clocking in at 26.71. Caroline Vrana was fourth with a time of 28.76. Cameron Bard claimed a runner-up finish for the men in 24.32, while Burton was fourth in 24.65.
In the 200 IM, Emily Covert touched second in a time of 2:30.35. She was followed by Kate Carter in third in 2:30.52. Grant Smith earned the win in the event for the men, swimming a time of 2:09.17. He also picked up third in the 100 free with a mark of 53.61 and was followed by Bard in fourth at 53.77.
Smith was again a leader in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning second place in 1:07.19 to lead a 2-3-4 finish by the Wildcats. He was followed by Spencer Gill in third with a time of 1:07.28 and Drew Gill in fourth at 1:08.43.
Following Lankiewicz in the 100 fly was Mace, who finished third in a time of 1:06.62. Bigham picked up a 3rd-place finish for the men, swimming a 58.64.
Malachowski finished second in the 100-meter backstroke, claiming a time of 1:08.44. Burton was the men's top finisher, posting a time of 58.87 for fourth place.
The Wildcats finished out the meet with a pair of second-place finishes in the 400-meter free relay. Mace, Shannon, Clancy and Healy combined for a time of 3:59.66. Ludwick, Bard and Kegley joined Ben Stewart-Bates in swimming a time of 3:33.09 in the event.
Davidson is back in action Nov. 2 at Cannon Pool. The women's team will host VMI and Asheville in a tri-meet, while the men welcome VMI in a 1 p.m. dual meet.
