DAVIDSON, N.C. – Appalachian State's Samantha Childress sent Davidson to its first overtime defeat of the season when she knocked in a corner kick in the first overtime to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 Southern Conference win Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in women's soccer.
 
Playing their second overtime in a row, and third in the last five games, Davidson (3-7-3, 2-2 SoCon) came out on the short end to fall to 2-1-3 in extra periods.
 
After a save over the crossbar by Rachel Locke, ASU (5-4-2, 2-0-2 SoCon) lined up for a corner kick. Jaclyn Nieradka sent in the ball in and Childress came charging in, deflecting it straight into the back of the net for the game-winner.
 
Sarah Tuggle scored her second straight goal in as many games, and third of the season, six minutes into the start of the game off a cross from Ashley Finke. It was Finke's first collegiate point.
 
The Mountaineers, who won their second straight vs. the Wildcats and third in the last five meetings, countered at the 18:34 mark when Julia Holz went through three Wildcat defenders and fired a shot to the far post to tie things up 1-all.
 
Locke earned fives saves in goal, while ASU's goalkeeper Megan Robinson had four.
 
The 'Cats had a 14-10 advantage on shots, putting five on frame, but ASU won the corner battle at 4-1.
 
Davidson wraps up its three-game league homestand with a 6 p.m. tilt against The Citadel Thursday, Oct. 10.
