DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a strong defensive stand in the first half of play, Davidson couldn't find the back of the net and took a 3-0 loss to the Dukes of James Madison in nonconference action Friday evening at Belk Turf Field.

The Wildcats attempted two shots, one of which came on goal and were not awarded a penalty corner as much of the game proved to be a defensive battle. It was a pair of freshmen who provided the offense for the 'Cats as Katherine English had the lone attempt on goal and Becca Jones was credited with the other attempt.

Goalkeeper Carolyn Macek made three saves in the match. Her JMU counterpart Lena Wimmert came up with a stop as well.

Bethany Ashworth had a trio of James Madison's seven attempts, scoring twice. Saskia Chelmowski and Rosalie Baker each had a pair of shots, with Chelmowski scoring a goal on one. The Dukes were awarded a penalty corner but did not score off it.

Neither team found the back of the net through the first 44 minutes of action, thought the Dukes attempted three shots in the first half. Just ender 10 minutes into the second stanza, Taylor West sent a hard pass from near the left sideline into the circle where Ashworth was able to deflect it past Macek to put the Dukes on the board 1-0.

After 15 more minutes of intense defensive play, Ashworth added her second of the contest. Macek came out to aid a Davidson defender play a loose ball, but Ashworth was able to snag the ball and send it in before Macek could regain her footing as JMU took a 2-0 lead. Chelmowski added a third goal for the Dukes in the closing minutes, scoring on a fast break into the circle as JMU earned the 3-0 win.

Davidson hits the road this Sunday when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face No. 3 North Carolina in a 2 p.m. match up.
