STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern shot 53.1 percent and ended an 11-game losing streak to Davidson with a 70-57 victory over the Wildcats in Southern Conference men's basketball action Monday evening at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Chris Czerapowicz led Davidson (9-7, 4-1 SoCon) with 13 points and added six rebounds, hitting 3-of-7 3-point attempts. He was joined in double-figures by Tyler Kalinoski with 11 points and Jake Cohen with 10.
Georgia Southern's defense held the Wildcats to 36.4 percent shooting from the field, limiting the 'Cats to just 9-of-30 (30.0 percent) in the second half.
The Eagles could not have gotten off to a better start as they opened 10-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from long range to take a 25-13 lead. Davidson closed the first half on a small spurt highlighted by 3-pointers from Kalinoski and Clint Mann to cut the deficit to 35-31 at the break.
C.J. Reed led Georgia Southern (7-10, 1-3 SoCon) with 16 points, going 7-for-15 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. Eric Ferguson scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, connecting on both 3-point attempts, while Marvin Baynham added 12 points.
After Davidson made it a one-possession contest on several occasions early in the second half, Georgia Southern responded with a 19-9 run to push its lead back to double digits, 59-46, with just under five minutes to play.
In addition to the Eagles holding a 34-30 advantage on the glass, both teams combined for just 10 turnovers.
Davidson returns home Thursday evening for a 7 p.m. contest with The Citadel.
