GREENVILLE, S.C. – Clint Mann scored a career-high 20 points to lead four Davidson scorers in double-figures, as the Wildcats defeated Furman, 81-73, in Southern Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Timmons Arena.
Mann scored 18 points in the first half to rally Davidson (9-6, 4-0 SoCon) from an early 13-point deficit, and finished hitting 6-of-9 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and all six free throw attempts. Nik Cochran totaled 17 points, scoring 13 in the second half, and he was perfect on three 3-point attempts and six free throw attempts. Chris Czerapowicz scored 13 points, going 3-for-5 on 3-pointers, and Jake Cohen added 14 points and two blocks.
Colin Reddick led Furman (3-11, 0-3 SoCon) with 18 points, while Larry Wideman scored 13. Kendrec Ferrara scored 10 points and hauled in eight rebounds.
Davidson led 43-38 at halftime, but Furman opened the second half on a 9-2 run to retake the lead, 47-45. It became a back-and-forth game until a jumper by De'Mon Brooks gave the Wildcats a 58-57 lead with 11:52 remaining in the game. A jumper by Wideman trimmed Davidson's lead back to one at 60-59 with just under 10 minutes remaining, but the 'Cats went on a 14-4 run keyed by a pair of 3-balls from Cochran to put the game out of reach.
A Czerapowicz three with 2:56 remaining gave Davidson its largest lead of the game (12 points) at 77-65.
Davidson trailed 30-17 in the first half after a cold start to the game, but finished the period on a 26-8 run. An 18-3 spurt capped by a three-ball by Mann gave Davidson its first lead of the game at 35-33 with 2:23 remaining in the opening frame.
Both teams were nearly identical in shooting from the field, as the 'Cats shot 48.3 percent to the Paladins' 48.1 percent, but Davidson scored 18 second-chance points on 11 offensive rebounds to generate more opportunities from the field, and was also 10-for-23 on 3-point attempt while Furman went 6-for-17.
Brooks led the Wildcats with seven rebounds, and scored six points as foul trouble limited him to 18 minutes.
Davidson returns to action Monday at Georgia Southern with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
