Davidson to Face Vanderbilt in First Game at Old Spice Classic

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson basketball team will take on Vanderbilt in its first game at the Old Spice Classic Nov. 22-25, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, it was announced today.
The 'Cats and Commodores will play Nov. 22, at 2 p.m., and the game will be televised live on ESPN2. Davidson will face either West Virginia or Marist in its second game of the tournament Nov. 23, at either 12:30 p.m. or 3 p.m.
Other teams in the tournament are UTEP, Oklahoma, Clemson and Gonzaga. ESPN2 will carry seven of the tournament games, including all four first-round games. ESPNU will air three and ESPN and ESPN3 will each have one game.
The Championship Game will air Sunday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The entire tournament will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com and through smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. The on-site games from the Old Spice Classic will air on ESPN3D.
Vanderbilt and Davidson have played in each of the last two seasons with the Commodores winning both games. Vanderbilt topped Davidson 87-83 in John M. Belk Arena last December and posted an 80-52 home win in Memorial Gymnasium during the 2010-11 season. Before that meeting, the schools had not played since 1985.
Vanderbilt leads the all-time series, which began in 1967, 5-1 and has won the last three. The Commodores have been ranked in the top-25 in four of the six meetings.
Davidson finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 25-8 overall record, marking the fourth time in the last six seasons the Wildcats have posted 25 or more wins. Davidson returns all five starters and the top eight scorers and rebounders from last year's squad.
About the Old Spice Classic
The 2012 Old Spice Classic, a bracket-format tournament, will feature 12 games over the three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship match Sunday, Nov. 25.
