Wildcat Women’s Track and Field Have Final Tuneup at Carolina Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. — In its final tuneup before heading to the conference championships next weekend, the Davidson women's track and field team competed on Friday, April 13, at the Carolina's University Cup hosted by Winthrop held at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.

The Wildcats competed in eight events and finished with 26 team points. Leading the way was Presley Parkes as the freshman again had an outstanding run in the 1500 Meter event. She raced to a second place showing on a time of 4:50.93.

The 3000 Meter run saw five Wildcats compete as they took third through seventh place at the finish line. Erin Osment scored six team points with her third place finish after closing with a time of 10:26.33. She was followed closely behind by Natalie Atabek, who was racing in her first spring event and was fourth on a time of 10:48.49 for five team points. Ali Cobb (5th, 10:50.07), Claire Naisby (6th, 10:52.59) and Lauren Carter (7th, 10:54.50) also represented the Wildcats in the event.

Grace Watt led a trio of Wildcat runners in the 800 Meter run when she earned a seventh place finish with a time of 2:19.86. Jane Gay came in two spots behind Watt on a time of 2:26.51 and fellow senior Brooke Senken gave Davidson three top-10 finishers with a 10th place showing and a time of 2:28.59.

In the 200 and 400 Meter dash, the duo of Mackenzie Hicks and Ashley Page raced in both events. In the 200, Hicks was 18th when she came across the finish line with a time of 28:57. Page was right behind her on a time of 30:63. They had eighth and 11th place finishes, respectively, in the 400, with Hicks getting the better time of 1:03.86 for eighth place. Page had a time of 1:05.70 to earn 11th place.

Mary Grace Gordon had a busy day competing in the 100 Meter dash as well as the Long Jump. The freshman picked up a 12th place finish in the 100 Meter dash when she raced past the finish line on a time of 13:32. Then in the Long Jump, Gordon was seventh with a jump of 5.13 meters.

Rounding out the field event members was Pole Vaulters Lexie Winograd and Molly Marshall. Marshall had a personal-best when she finished with a height of 10 feet-4 inches to place fifth in the event. Winograd did not register a height in her attempts.
 
Davidson will now ready itself for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, April 21-22, in Cullowhee, N.C.
