DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's and women's basketball teams will host the fourth annual Davidson BUZZKILL weekend, a 3-on-3 tournament and auction, April 28-29, to raise money to prevent the spread of malaria in Africa.
New this year is an evening event Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. at The Freckled Dog Pub (above Summit Coffee) in Davidson. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 leading up to the event as well as during the event. At the end of the night, BUZZKILL will raffle off a must-have surprise item. Other activities at The Freckled Dog Pub include a live auction and music.
The annual silent auction will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Farmer's Market in Davidson and finish at the end of the night at The Freckled Dog Pub. Auction items include a trip for two to San Francisco (two round-trip flights, four-night stay at Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf and two tickets/post-game passes to any one Warriors game during your stay), a golf outing for three with Stephen Curry during the month of May (scheduling TBD) and night on the radio with John Kilgo on press row.
The BUZZKILL 3-on-3 Tournament will be Sunday, April 29, from 1-4 p.m. in Belk Arena. The tournament is a double-elimination competition for 3rd-8th graders, who will be split into three divisions, with 10 teams in each. There are four players on each team, and the registration fee is $50 per team. Teams can register online at buzzkillfoundation.org.
Current and former Davidson players, including BUZZKILL?founder Bryant Barr, will also be participating. Teams are asked to raise extra money by getting sponsors, and teams will have the opportunity to choose a current or former Davidson player to be their coach through a draft based on the amount of money raised. All participants will get a free t-shirt to be worn as a jersey during the competition.
“I am extremely excited to be coming back to Davidson to host the fourth annual Davidson BUZZKILL event,” said Barr. “It will be a great weekend full of exciting events helping out a fantastic cause.”
Davidson BUZZKILL?has raised over $100,000 since it began. Barr and Curry will be going to the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya May 9-13, where they will distribute over 100,000 bed nets to refugees at the camp.
The BUZZKILL Foundation is a grassroots organization helping local communities realize a single act of generosity can impact the lives of millions around the world. By partnering with global agencies that aim to prevent the spread of malaria in Africa we touch the lives of people affected by the disease.
