CHARLESTON, S.C. — Continuing on its five-match road trip, Davidson was held without a team point in falling to nationally ranked College of Charleston, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in women's Southern Conference tennis action.
#60 CofC remained perfect in SoCon play at 6-0 and pushed its overall mark to 17-4. Davidson, playing its fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season, fell for the 10th straight match as its record moved to 3-14 and 0-4 in league action.
The Wildcats have also faced N.C. State (#34), Winthrop (#67) and Virginia Tech (#61), which were all ranked at the time they had played each school.
The 'Cats came out strong in doubles play. The tandem of Stephani Synn (Conover, N.C.) and Brites Moniz Soares (Angra Do Heroismo, Portugal) took six games from the Cougars No. 1 team, but fell 8-6. The duo of Nisha Crouser (Columbus, Ohio) and Katharine Dicconson (Pacific Grove, Calif.) pushed their opponent to an extra game at No. 2, before seeing their day end at 9-7.
Singles play went CofC's way as they Cougars took all six spots for the 7-0 team win. Moniz-Soares saw her personal-best seven-match win streak come to an end at No. 2 when she dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision. The sophomore saw her record go to 9-2 at the No. 2 position and her overall mark drop to 10-4.
Davidson, in a stretch of playing six matches in eight days, heads to Appalachian State for a league match, April 3, at 3:30. The Wildcats will also play Western Carolina (Apr. 4), Samford (Apr. 6) and Chattanooga (Apr. 7) during their stretch.
