BOONE, N.C. — Seeking its first Southern Conference win of the season, Davidson hit the road for a league match against Appalachian State, but came up empty in falling 5-0 to the Mountaineers on Tuesday afternoon in women's tennis.
Davidson fell to 3-15 overall and is 0-5 in SoCon matches, while ASU ran its mark to 11-8 and 4-4 in the league.
Due to rain in the area, both teams decided to start singles play and no doubles matches were started. The Wildcats dropped five of the six singles matches to fall in the team match.
Elise Held, who had her match go unfinished, had captured the first set 6-3, but trailed in set two, 2-1, before the team match was decided already.
Brites Moniz-Soares jumped out to a 2-1 lead to start her match at No. 1, but fell 6-4 and then 6-1 in the second set. The sophomore saw her record fall to 10-5 overall in singles action.
At No. 3 singles, Nisha Crouser had a 1-0 lead, but fell 6-1 in her opening set and then fell 6-3.
Davidson, in a stretch of playing six matches in eight days, continues league play with a match at home against Western Carolina tomorrow at 3 p.m.
